Our Daytime Possum | March 24, 2011 |
After the snowstorm in early March, a young opossum wandered over, looking for food. I felt pleased that Peggy used the walkway I had dug for small mammals. |
Sue and I named her Peggy, not that we know her sex, but it seemed like a convenient name. (Opossums are North America's only marsupial.) |
Peggy rooted about for seed and nuts. |
An opossum expert told me that Peggy is one year old.
Opossums are primarily noctural, but with all the snow cover, food must have been scarce in her regular habitat. And nothing like a tasty bit of bread with which to polish off a meal. |
Merry approves of quality cat TV. |
The above photo was from Peggy's second daytime visit. I've seen Peggy subsequently, but only at night.
Photo note: The photos were taken with the Pentax K20D, with the SMC-DA 55-300mm lens. The first four date from March 7, 2011; the fifth one from March 9, 2011. |
