White-Crowned SparrowNovember 2007

White-crowns are a moderate- to larger-size sparrows that I generally see during spring and fall migration at Cooper's Pond.

On occasion, a handsome white-crowned sparrow stops by our feed area.

In general, I photograph them in the Toftree game land just north of home (and it is always a challenge trying to focus through a thicket).

The following white-crowned sparrow is probably an immature. He is first picking up the striking white-and-black crown.

It's always a good day when I come across a white-crown.

Photo note: I used a Pentax *ist D, with the SMC-A* 200mm macro lens (plus doubler) for the first photo (in May 2007) and with the SMC 1000mm reflex lens for the second two (in Oct. 2007).
