In the beginning of April, I was experimenting with a different lens combination while walking outside, and the eastern phoebe was the first bird I came across that morning. For once, the bird was staying quite still. Here it is demonstrating the art of turning one's head 180 degrees.

Concentrating on focusing, I assumed I was photographing a catbird. At home, when I examined the photos on my monitor, I realized it was something else. Out came the ID books. For once, identification seemed straightforward: my first eastern phoebe.
