The green heron is a small heron with an extremely long neck.

Oops. I thought it had a long neck . . .

  Ah! That's much better.

The green heron is a small heron with a great big whopper of a neck.

So how does the green heron hide its neck when it isn't in use?

In terms of "small," following is a comparison shot between a green heron and a great blue heron.

Okay. The above wasn't the sharpest photo I've ever taken, but trying to get birds to cooperate is always a challenge. I've a few better great blue heron photos here.

Photo note: I used a Pentax *ist D, with the SMC 1000mm reflex lens (for the first two photos) and the SMC 400-600mm reflex zoom (for the third photo).
